WATERCOLOR PAINTING

JUNE 12 – 18, 2023

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Ikaria with its history and mythology, and with its special architecture is an inspiring place. It has rich vegetation, steep mountains with thin peaks, forests, natural springs and rivers with waterfalls, rocky areas and beaches. The intense changes of scenery and colors make it an ideal place to wander with your colors and capture on paper what piques your interest. In this seminar, we will not only paint landscape, but also animals, insects, herbs, or the human body.

PROGRAM

Day 1
The first day will be a day of getting to know each other. Each participant will receive his materials: watercolors, brushes, pencils and papers. We will sit in the workshop area, initially there will be a theoretical introduction, and we will discuss some characteristics of watercolor. At the same time on our table, there will be some objects, as a still life that those who want can start drawing while we talk to familiarize themselves with watercolor materials.

Day 2
This will be the first official creation day. In the morning we walk along the river and make frequent and short stops for painting. We focus on small details on plants or insects. In our afternoon meeting we paint Nas beach from afar.

Day 3
On this day, we will take our watercolors to the beach. Rocks, banks of the river with reeds and the breaking wave, we chose and sketch. In our afternoon meeting we will try to paint a sunset. This takes effort because the colors change very quickly!

Day 4
Hiking day! The schedule will change today, we will start at 10 and finish around 4 with no break in between. We will follow a magical path that goes around Raches village with an experienced guide. With regular stops in a green landscape, we will paint the river, trees, bridges, old settlements, and wherever we find an ideal spot we will sit down to have our picnic.

Day 5
On the fifth day, the program will have a model. You can do quick pencil sketches to familiarize yourself, then try your hands at watercolors. In the afternoon, those who wish can try to transfer their design to a white plate with ceramic colors which will then be polished and baked.

Day 6
In the morning we have a walk in Gialiskari village. We will paint the harbor with the boats, the small church, or the village from afar. In the afternoon the participants are free to wander around Nas and paint what they liked best or sit in the workshop and finish any paintings they didn’t finish.

Day 7
Unfortunately, this will be the day of departure.
